Miles Ward, Google. Miles Ward is the Global Head for Solutions at Google Cloud Platform. Miles has a passion for delivering the value of cloud computing to startups, agencies, ISV’s, and enterprises so they can stop wasting time with infrastructure and start accelerating their businesses. He has?helped NASA live-stream the Mars Rover landing; and has helped Obama For America win the 2012 presidential campaign. Additionally, he has?helped thousands of companies make the leap to the cloud.
Miles is?fascinated by the dynamic, community-driven, meritocratic information economy that is growing online. Before he?worked with clouds, Miles?helped design and build a system that allows Fortune 1000 companies engage in that discussion, to harness value from it, and affect change in it called Visible Technologies. Before that, he got excited about prediction markets, built UI’s for laser measurement tools; and built an IT services business.
Miles’s?specialties include System Architecture and design; Enterprise-scale networking and hardware; UI/UX Conceptualization; data visualization; internet data collection; solution design; and cross-platform development.

Jo?o P. Hespanha, UCSB.?Jo?o was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1968. He received the Licenciatura in electrical and computer engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal in 1991 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and applied science from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut in 1998. From 1999 to 2001, he was Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002, where he currently holds a Professor position with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prof. Hespanha is the Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a member of the Executive Committee for the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB).
His current research interests include hybrid and switched systems; multi-agent control systems; distributed control over communication networks (also known as networked control systems); the use of vision in feedback control; stochastic modeling in biology; and network security.
Marti Ogram, Riptide.io.?Marti is a Co-founder and VP of Sales and Marketing. She was the Global Business Development manager for Cisco Systems’?Smart+Connected Building Group, and helped launched the original Mediator product as the Director of Marketing back in 2001. She has spent over 15 years in sales and marketing leadership roles in technology and real estate start-ups.
Luca Foschini, Activity Exchange.?Luca is a co-founder and data scientist at The Activity?Exchange, a platform that uses data analytics on people’s activities?to incentivize healthy behavior.?Luca earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC Santa Barbara where he?developed efficient algorithms for routing in road networks under?heavy traffic conditions.?He also holds a Master in Engineering from the University of Pisa, and?is an alumnus of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.
In a previous life, Luca accumulated 5 years of industry experience at?Ask.com, Google, and the CERN, and was a coach of the Italian national?team participating in the International Olympiad?in Informatics (IOI).
Nick Lahouti, GE Intelligent Platforms.?Nick Lahouti is currently a Principal Hardware Engineer for GE Intelligent Platforms located in Goleta, California.? In this role, Nick leads hardware design efforts on a wide range of Ethernet Network Switches for the Military/Defense markets.? He is involved in developing product specifications, and is engaged in all facets of hardware design including component selection, schematics, board layout, design verification testing and manufacturing.

Jim Semick?is co-founder of ProductPlan, cloud-based product roadmap software. For 15 years he has been a founder, early employee, and advisor for the software industry. Jim was part of the founding team at AppFolio, helping validate and launch the company’s first products. Prior to AppFolio, he conducted market validation and created version 1.0 product requirements for successful SaaS products including GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting (acquired by Citrix).
